Olympic glory arrived early at the Haggerston Park BMX Track when Shanaze Reade gave it her seal of approval last week.
BMX racing champion Shanaze visited the new track, which was initially conceived by the Haggerston Park User group, as part of a promotional tour for Olympic sponsors VISA and was impressed by the jumps and berms.
The impressive track was installed by Hackney Council and has quickly become a magnet to young people either riding it or as spectators for the spectacular jumps that it allows. Riders less keen on racing can be seen jumping over three jumps at a time, or performing gravity-defying tricks over the jump right in the middle of the track.
The Hackney BMX Club offers training as well as lending bikes to local youngsters and has been using the track extensively since its completion earlier this year.
Despite a busy schedule three times World BMX Champion Shanaze made time for the young people at the Hackney City Farm pupil referral unit.
Good luck Shanaze …Go for Gold…. from all of us here in Hackney!
