Environmental Volunteering

In addition to the gardening sessions, Mini Farmers and Maxi Farmers, we also have a range of volunteering opportunities related to some of our environmental projects.

We have opened a shop (what’s environmental about a shop I hear you ask). Well, we want this to be a shop that is also a swap shop, a library, a “sharetail” outlet.

In other words, while we want to generate funds to keep the farm going we don’t want to needlessly add to the drain on resources or to waste so we want to sell ethical recycled products (slightly more expensive) but which people can bring back and exchange. So our shop will sell marchandise, eggs, veg as well as toys which people can bring back, tools to share and books as a library.

We will need help setting up and running this and think that this is quite a new way to approach retail and would like you to be a part of this.

We are looking for people to run the shop (volunteering gets you discounts!) on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Please get in touch if this is of interest.

We are also looking for people to help with the maintenance of a food forest/ orchard in Haggerston Park. This group meets on Saturdays at 11 in the orchard and then comes to the farm to get tools etc… Get in touch if you fancy a few hours in the sunshine at weekends and learn some basics of food forestry.

Finally our environmental courses (which can be viewed here: http://www.lowimpact.org/venues_hackney.htm need somebody to “host them” that is help prepare the room and support the tutor and sitting in on the course and learning for free!

If any of these opportunities are of interest to you, please get in touch.
