Hackney City Farm was established as a charity in 1984 as a place for people to come together, learn about food and farming and experience nature. We have grown into a valued community resource delivering a broad range of activities and services.
We are looking for somebody to join the Farm Team to support and develop our social enterprise activities. We have a range of social enterprise activities on the Farm that include a room hire business, a livestock breeding programme, a therapy practice and a small farm shop for eggs, veg and souvenirs. These enterprises are ways for the Farm to generate income to support our charitable activities.
You will work with the Farm Management in the daily running of these social enterprises, including managing bookings, preparing spaces for hire and for events, liaising with customers, preparing stock for sale, keeping up to date records and bookkeeping. There will also be opportunities for the right candidate to develop these social enterprise activities on longer term projects that could include developing new goods and services.
There is always a lot going on and you will need to be able to do many different tasks in any given week. This will require you to be highly adaptable and organised.
The role would be ideal for someone thinking of a career in events, retail or in the charity sector.
We have strict health and safety and safeguarding protocols that you will be expected to follow.
This role is funded by the UK Government’s Kickstart scheme and all applicants must meet the eligibility criteria. You must be 16-24 and be receiving Universal Credit.
There are no qualifications required for the role and you are not required to have any previous experience. We are looking for someone who is highly motivated and keen to learn. You must be able to show us that you are passionate about working within the community and comfortable being around farm animals.
The work is varied so you will need to be adaptable and able to take initiative. You must have good communication skills and be able to work as part of a team.
Please send your CV and cover letter to jobs@hackneycityfarm.co.uk and complete a Diversity and Inclusion Monitoring Form by 6pm on 28 February 2022. If you would prefer to submit your application in an alternative format, please let us know.
We are committed to hiring people from diverse backgrounds and improving representation in farming and the charity sector in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.
We will be calling suitable candidates the following week to arrange interviews on site.
