There are currently two vacancies:

Sessional Volunteer Group Worker

Hackney City Farm is a working Farm in London on a 2 ½ acre site. The Charity was established in 1984 by members of the community, it is open 6 days a week
to visitors free of charge. We provide people with Learning and educational opportunities based on food, farming and the wider environment. Information
on the project is on the Farm’s website www.hackneycityfarm.co.uk.

We have opportunities for part-time sessional workers as part of our bank staff to provide occasional or part time cover for Group Volunteer days.

We offer £12.50 per hour for an 8 hour day with a 30-minute paid lunch break. The bank staff are part of a friendly and experienced team and will work on their own or accompanied depending on the number of people in a group.

We run corporate group volunteer days Tuesday - Friday every week. Bookings are half or full day volunteering.

The groups carry out the following tasks;

  • Muck heap turning
  • Mucking out and deep cleaning
  • Weeding
  • Painting and decorating
  • Fence building
  • Hedge trimming
  • Bird box making
  • General Farm maintenance
  • Gardening

You will be responsible for;

  • Preparing tools and equipment for groups
  • Inductions and health/safety talks
  • Supervising groups of between 10-25 people including tool and equipment use.
  • Collecting feedback and monitoring.
  • Ensuring volunteer room and tools are clean and tidy at the end of the session

Essential Qualities:

  • Enthusiastic and passionate about working on a city farm and leading volunteers.
  • Have at least 1 year experience working with groups.

Desired Qualities:

  • Low level DIY skills
  • Growing food or working with farm animals

Sessional Livestock Worker

Hackney City Farm is a working Farm in London on a 2 ½ acre site. The Charity was established in 1984 by members of the community, it is open 6 days a week
to visitors free of charge. We provide people with Learning and educational opportunities based on food, farming and the wider environment. There are opportunities for sessional work as part of our bank staff to provide occasional or part time cover on the Farmyard.

We offer the possibility of flexible working at £12.50 per hour with a 30-minute paid lunch break.

There is a good, friendly and experienced team awaiting the right people.

Essential Qualities:

  • Enthusiastic and passionate about working on a city farm and educating visitors.
  • Qualified to level 2 Animal Care (Diploma) or equivalent.
  • Have at least 1 year experience working with livestock.

You will be responsible for carrying out the following tasks:

  • Feeding animals.
  • Mucking out.
  • Bedding down.
  • Opening and closing farm to visitors.
  • Supervising the yard during opening hours.
  • Collecting eggs.
  • Supervising volunteers.
  • Running livestock from indoor enclosures to fields before opening and running livestock back at the end of the day.
  • Daily health checks of Sheep, Goats, Donkeys, Pigs, Chickens, Ducks and Geese.
  • Assist with lambing, kidding, farrowing, foaling and hatching projects.
  • Following the five freedoms of animal care.
  • Answering visitor enquiries.
  • Assisting in the treatment of sick or injured animals.

Desired Qualities:

  • Full driving licence.
  • Low level DIY skills
  • Experience leading corporate volunteer days
  • Experience installing livestock fencing
